About the Author – Rudo Kashiri
🌙 A Career Rooted in Space and Science
A retired NASA science educator, Rudo served with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, leading national STEM programs that brought space science into schools across the United States. She collaborated with astronauts, scientists, and educators, including on the NASA STS-118 mission aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour — the historic flight of the first educator astronaut.
Her work on programs like NASA Explorer Schools helped classrooms connect directly with real-world missions, turning science lessons into living adventures.
📖 From Educator to Storyteller
Inspired by her grandchildren’s boundless curiosity, Rudo transitioned from teaching science to writing stories that make learning magical. Her books weave together scientific principles, cultural storytelling, and hands-on discovery, helping young readers understand that science is everywhere — from the stars above to the world around them.
“Seeing the world through their eyes reminded me of the boundless curiosity that drives science,” Rudo reflects.
🌍 Celebrating Diversity and Discovery
Through characters like Ambuya (Grandmother), Rudo celebrates her cultural heritage and emphasizes the importance of family and diversity in learning. Her stories show that every child can be a scientist, explorer, and problem-solver — and that curiosity connects us all.
❤️ Continuing the Mission
Even in retirement, Rudo continues to teach, write, and inspire through workshops, school visits, and storytelling events. She also advocates for representation in STEM, ensuring children from all backgrounds see role models who look like them in science.
Rudo credits her father, Dr. Alec Chibanguza, for nurturing her love of reading and writing — a legacy that lives on in every book she creates.
“I believe every child can be a scientist, an explorer, and a lifelong learner,” says Rudo. “Writing these stories allows me to share that dream — and to help spark the same curiosity that inspired me.”
